The first ten seconds
How does a Fachat video chat begin, second by second?
The call opens before you have decided what to say. You tap Start on the home page, your browser puts up its camera and microphone prompt, and a beat afterwards someone real is on the other side of the screen. No lobby, no countdown. That speed is the appeal, and it is also why first-timers freeze.
So decide on your opening line now, while nobody is watching. It does not need to be good. "Hey, where are you calling from?" works on every continent, and the answer usually hands you the next two minutes of conversation for free. A plain question is never the wrong one, and most people will pick up the thread if you run dry.
A second line worth having ready is about the moment itself: the hour on their clock right now, or whatever your ring pulled them away from. Small, answerable, and it gets both of you past the part where two people just look at each other.
